Sitting is bad for you.

There is a large body of evidence that shows prolonged sedentary behavior, especially sitting, causes an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and even cancer. Not to mention 80% of Americans suffer from back pain. We blame modern “ergonomic” chairs that encourage poor posture and inactivity.

What about standing?

Standing is actually worse.

Standing for prolonged periods of time causes pooling of blood in the legs and can lead to varicose veins and an increased risk of clotting. One study of 7,000 participants found that those that stood all day had twice the heart attack rate of those that sat all day. People switch to standing desks because they think the opposite of sitting is standing. It isn’t, the opposite of sitting is moving.

What's the solution?

Movement is the answer.

Studies have shown that even low-level movement, not intense exercise, can improve overall health. Just walking 15 minutes a day can improve heart health, you don’t even have to break a sweat.
